Dit is ʼn moeilik erkende feit dat die Afrikaner by tye strategies verkeerde besluite neem. Die Afrikaner het egter, meestal, die vermoë om operasioneel uitsonderlik te presteer.

Die voorvereiste vir strategiese besluitneming behels ʼn eerlike waardering of erkenning van die uitdaging, iets waarmee Afrikaners by tye sukkel. Jy moet ʼn “diagnose” van jou uitdaging kan maak alvorens jy daartoe in staat sal wees om na behore ʼn langtermyn plan te beraam om vir die uitdaging praktiese antwoorde te verskaf (strategie). As ons volk egter homself met sy daaglikse take besig hou doen ons dit gewoonlik besonder goed (operasioneel). Ons mag dus soms sukkel om altyd die regte ding te doen, maar dit wat ons wel doen, doen ons goed.

Majuba kyk oor die Boere se laers en sal Laingsnek ook nie meer deur die Boere verdedigbaar wees as die Britte Majuba beheer nie. Alhoewel die Boere onkant gevang is, volg ʼn operasionele voorbeeld van krygmanskap wat wêreldwyd beïndruk het. Die Boere het met die regte gebruik van die terrein en akkurate vuur die Britse stellings op die berg oorrompel en ʼn skokgolf deur Brittanje en sy militêre instellings gestuur.

Die oorwinning by Majuba op 27 Februarie 1881, so wonderbaarlik as wat dit is, word meestal verkeerdelik as die einde van die Boere se stryd vir vryheid voorgehou. Daar het egter na die slag ingewikkelde onderhandelinge gevolg en waar die Boereleiers se strategiese benadering weereens beslissend was. Vir talle van die Boerekrygers was die uitkoms ongemaklik: Die Transvaal sou ʼn susereine staat van Brittanje wees, wat basies inhou dat Brittanje ʼn Goewerneur in Pretoria sou aanstel wat oor die Transvaal se buitelandse verhoudinge waak en beheer uitoefen. Die Boere sou bloot beperkte selfregering geniet. Ons Boerehelde van ouds stel vir ons vandag ʼn voorbeeld: Wees eerlik oor ons uitdagings, vind toepaslike oplossings en implementeer praktiese stappe om dit te bereik. Vir die Boereleiers by Majuba was ʼn klein stap na selfregering beter as om domastrant aansprake wat prakties onafdwingbaar was te maak. Hulle bewys dan ook tereg dat ons volk wel oor die vermoë beskik om strategies en slim sy stryd om vryheid aan te durf.
